PERIZYM IND: Highly Effective Non-GMO Cellulase

PERIZYM IND is as highly effective mix of different acidic non-GMO cellulase enzymes. These biocatalysts are able to degrade cellulosic fibers. PERIZYM IND is used in the textile finishing industry for biopolishing of piece goods and in garment finishing industry for garment washing, in particular for stone-free stone washing of jeans and denim articles. Textiles finished with PERIZYM IND show a reduced tendency to pilling.

PERIZYM IND: non-GMO Cellulase for Garment Washing and Biopolishing

PERIZYM IND is a liquid combination of acidic cellulases. The cellulase enzymes in PERIZYM IND derive from non-GMO (non-genetically modified organisms). Cellulases are enzymes, which can split  cellulose molecules. PERIZYM IND complies to various ecological standards such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, ZDHC MRSL (Manufacturing Restricted Substance List of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Program) as well as to ZDHC Level 1.

Cellulases are enzymes which can split cellulose molecules. Protruding ends of the cellulosic fibers are cut off enzymatically. This results in an improved fabric appearance, a softer handle and a reduced tendency to pilling of the enzymatically treated textiles. This effect is used in textile finishing when cotton or lyocell articles are biopolished. It is also applied in stone washing of jeans and denim garments.

Optimum Efficiency of PERIZYM IND

As of any other enzyme, the enzymatic activity of PERIZYM IND depends on influencing factors such as pH value and temperature. PERIZYM IND shows its optimum efficiency at a pH range between 4.5 and 5.5 and a temperature of 50 to 55 °C. Under these conditions acidic cellulases have their peak of activity. Higher temperatures or a deviation of the pH can lead to denaturation of the enzyme proteins and thus cause irreversible inhibition of the enzyme activity. For the adjustment of an optimally buffered pH range, we recommend the use of PERISTAL E. PERISTAL E is a buffer for a slightly acidic pH range. It is perfectly suitable for stable pH adjustment during enzymatic treatments.

Application Recommendation for Biopolishing and Stone Washing without Pumice Stones

For biopolishing cellulase treatments only 1.5 to 3.0 g/l of liquid PERIZYM IND are used. In order to achieve satisfactory effects after biopolishing or stone washing, besides a high-performance cellulase you need the optimum pH, a suitable temperature but also high mechanical action. You can realize this in textile finishing of piece goods on winch beck or jet dyeing machines, and in garment finishing of ready-made pieces on industrial drum washing machines. When using PERIZYM IND for stone washing no pumice stones are needed. In order to increase the mechanical action during stone-free stone washing you can additionally use special laundry balls or denim washing balls.

Enzyme Stop at the End of the Cellulase Treatment

The fabrics must not get damaged by the cellulase treatment, and the stability as well as the tensile strength of the textiles should not be affected. This is the reason why an enzyme stop is carried out following the enzymatic treatment with PERIZYM IND (after about 45 to 60 minutes). This can be achieved through the denaturation of the acidic cellulase enzymes. You can either increase the pH value of the liquor to 8.5 or the temperature to 85 °C.
