Sharp Edges and Crisp Outlines in Digital Textile Printing
The basis for a good dye uptake in textile printing and dyeing is a well-pretreated, absorbent fabric. Textile materials which were prepared for traditional printing, having good wettability and absorbing capacities, also tend to soak in liquids such as inkjet inks, and the fluids spread within the fabric. The result: Outlines and edges become blurred and the colors appear pale.
In traditional printing, sharpness and crispness of the printing image, but also color depth and through print, are controlled by parameters such as viscosity and rheology of the printing pastes, the mesh count of the printing screens as well as the choice of the doctor blade system. For achieving sharp contours and deep, brilliant, high-contrast colors in digital inkjet printing, the textiles for digital printing need to be pretreated in a special way.
Inkjet Pretreatment with PERIJET Auxiliaries
For the pretreatment of textiles for inkjet printing we offer special auxiliaries. Depending on the fiber composition of the goods – cellulosic fibers, such as cotton or viscose, wool silk, polyamide, or polyester – and on the used ink system, you can choose just the right product from our PERIJET range. Traditionally pretreated fabrics, which were bleached or prewashed, and eventually also singed, are padded with a PERIJET product and then dried. Subsequent to the inkjet pretreatment the textiles can be printed digitally with the corresponding reactive, acid, or dispersion inks. After printing, the fabric is fixed as in conventional textile printing according to the used dye class, and the surplus dyestuff is washed off.
Our PERIJET Product Recommendations
Some of our PERIJET auxiliaries for the inkjet pretreatment of woven and knitted fabrics are listed below:
PERIJET CEL
PERIJET CEL is a printing auxiliary for the preparation of cellulosic fibers, wool, silk and their blends for inkjet printing with reactive inks.
PERIJET PA
PERIJET PA is a product for pretreating knitted or woven fabrics made of polyamide for inkjet printing with acid dyestuffs.
PERIJET PES
PERIJET PES is a preparation agent for polyester fabrics with disperse inks in digital inkjet printing.
Inkjet Printing: An Ecological Printing Technology
Most probably textile inkjet printing is the textile sector, which showed the fastest development since the 1990s. Due to the low production speeds, in the beginning it was only applied for small samples. Meanwhile the innovative inkjet technology has reached maturity and is well established in textile production. The inkjet printing process is more ecological and more sustainable than the traditional printing methods, such as roller or screen printing. They require the production of special screens or rollers, which need to be cleaned after printing. Therefore, huge quantities of dyestuffs and auxiliaries reach the waste water. On the other hand, in inkjet printing no residual printing pastes are remaining which would need to be disposed. Only the dyestuff quantity which is needed for producing a brilliant printing image is applied on the textile.
Digital Pigment Printing is Independent from Substrate
Read more about our joint research work with the DITF Denkendorf on the subject of “Digital Pigment Printing”. With this process, you can print with pigment inks independent from the textile substrate.
