Climate and Environmental Protection

As a future-oriented, climate-neutral company, we are strongly committed to climate protection. We also actively participate in various initiatives on a voluntary basis, for example to promote environmental protection. Among other things, we have joined the chemical industry’s Responsible Care® initiative. In addition, environmental protection in the chemical industry – as well as in our company – is strongly regulated and advanced by laws and regulations such as REACH.

CLIMATE PROTECTION

In times of global warming and climate change, climate protection is not only sensible and forward-looking. Rather, it is essential for the preservation of our livelihoods. In the meantime, drastic measures are necessary to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and to slow down the change. That is why we have taken voluntary climate protection measures and implemented emission reduction and climate protection strategies.

For example, we have been using green hydroelectric power from a plant in the Alpine region at our main site in Reutlingen since 2021. Furthermore we motivate our suppliers in terms of sustainability.

RESPONSIBLE CARE®

Via the German Association of the Chemical Industry (VCI) we volunteer in the initiative Responsible Care^®. Through this initiative, we aim to continuously enhance our performance in the fields of environmental, health, and safety standards beyond the realm of legal regulation.

We actively seek to improve the safety and environmental performance of our products and procedures. We know, as a manufacturer of textile auxiliaries, that we carry the responsibility for the chemicals which we make available on the open market. For this reason, we make sure that they do not pose environment or health risks during transportation or usage.

REACH regulation

REACH is a regulation of the European Union which entered into force in 2007. The abbreviation REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. The regulation was introduced to reduce the risks posed by chemicals to human health and to the environment.

In order to attain this goal, all chemical substances must be identified, registered, and evaluated according to specific guidelines. After evaluation, the substances are then approved by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). If a chemical substance is determined to be particularly dangerous, ECHA will add it to the list of SVHCs (Substance of Very High Concern). Chemical products which contain more than 0.1 % (w/w) of these SVHC listed candidate substance are subject to strict regulations.

In accordance with article 23 of the REACH regulation, all substances, which are produced in annual quantities of more than 1 ton, have to be registered as from June 1st, 2018. Without registration chemical substances must no longer be produced by manufacturers within the EU.

We had pre-registered all manufacturing substances which are processed at Textilchemie Dr. Petry GmbH with the ECHA. Two of these pre-registered chemicals were already registered and approved. All further substances which are subject to registration were yet registered by our suppliers or by Textilchemie Dr. Petry GmbH in co-operation with other manufacturers.

Concerning the list of SVHCs, we can confirm that our product recipes are in accordance with the ECHA and do not contain more than 0.1 % (w/w) of any SVHC substances. With current consideration of REACH, we do not expect that we will be required to make any changes to our product range and plan to reliably and continuously supply our valued customers. As a customer and user of our products, you do not have to consider anything concerning the REACH registration when using our textile auxiliaries. We and our sub-suppliers already took all the necessary formal steps for you.
