PERIXEN FDA: Sewing Thread Lubricant for Application in Food Processing

Sewing threads which are intended for the use in the food related sector must comply with Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. With PERIXEN FDA, we have developed a lubricant for sewing threads which meets the requirements of this European regulation. In principle, threads and yarns finished with PERIXEN FDA can be used in the food industry. However, the certification of the finished threads according to FDA or other country-specific requirements has to be applied for by the yarn manufacturer.

Threads in the Food Sector Are Used for Sewing and Closing

Sewing threads are used for the processing and packaging of food. The threads are used, for example, for sewing filters for cheese manufacturing as well as for tea or coffee filters, for affixing labels, and for sealing sacks for flour, coffee and potatoes.

Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004

In the European Economic Area, materials and articles intended to come in contact with food, must comply with Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004. This regulation is intended to prevent health hazards to humans as well as to avoid damages to the foodstuffs.

Sewing Thread Lubricant PERIXEN FDA for the Food Processing Sector

PERIXEN FDA is a sewing thread lubricant which can be used in a variety of applications and meets the requirements governed by chapter 3 of the (EC) 1935/2004. In addition, the raw materials used for PERIXEN FDA are in accordance with regulation 21 CFR of the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Application of PERIXEN FDA as Lubricant for Sewing Threads and Yarns

PERIXEN FDA is anhydrous and can be used on all kinds of sewing threads by lick roll or by precision pump techniques. There is no need for drying after application. The lubrication provides the threads with excellent friction values and effectively prevents the stick slip effect. In addition, heat can be conducted effectively away from the hot sewing needle during the sewing process. This ensures, even under difficult conditions, a trouble-free sewing of threads made of synthetic fibers.
