PERIGUARD Products for Fluorocarbon-Free Hydrophobic Finishing

Fluorocarbon resins (PFC) provide textiles not only with water repellency but also with oil and dirt repellency. Most of the time, finished materials only require water repellent properties, which can also be achieved with fluorocarbon-free water repellents. As an alternative to the hydrophobic finishing with conventional fluorocarbons, we offer fluorine-free PERIGUARD products with excellent wash permanence for durable water repellency (DWR).

Outdoor clothing is often finished with fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic DWR finishing agents.

PFCs are Ecologically Dubious

Perflourinated and polyfluorinated carbons (PFC) are extremely stable and hardly vulnerable to chemicals. The result is that they are not biodegradable and pose a health risk. Usually effective dirt, oil and chemical repellent finishes on textiles which are used, for example, in the field of personal protective equipment (PPE), can only be achieved with these fluorine compounds. In the outdoor and sport garment industry, oil and dirt repellency are not usually required. For this reason, the use of ecologically disputed PFCs is not necessary. The required DWR can be achieved with fluorocarbon-free products.

Our Fluorine-Free Products

Our fluorine-free finishing agents PERIGUARD PR NEW, PERIGUARD WRC, PERIGUARD WRC NEW and PERIGUARD ZP conc. offer very effective water repellent finishing, also called DWR (Durable Water Reppelency). PERIGUARD PR NEW is universally suited for all types of fibers and has a very good wash resistance. PERIGUARD PR NEW as well as PERIGUARD WRC give excellent hydrophobic properties to cotton and cotton blends. PERIGUARD WRC NEW is mainly used on synthetic fibers. PERIGUARD ZP conc. is characterized by excellent washing permanence on polyester fabrics.

Good Washing Permanence

To ensure that the hydrophobically DWR finished textiles show maximum lifetime use, the water repellency achieved should have good washing permanence. With the appropriate hydrophobic agent matched to the fabric to be finished, you can achieve optimal wash-permanence. For example, PERIGUARD ZP conc. on polyester textiles shows outstanding permanence in domestic laundering. The wash permanence of the hydrophobic effects on textiles treated with PERIGUARD PR NEW, PERIGUARD WRC and PERIGUARD WRC NEW can be further improved by using our blocked polyisocyanate PERIGUARD EXT NEW. Additional heat treatments, such as ironing or tumbling, after domestic laundering have a measurable positive effect on the DWR effect and the hydrophobic properties.
