Bonding: Resistant, Water-Repellent Sewing Threads for Highest Demands

We offer special bonding and finishing auxiliaries and process recommendations for the finishing of sewing threads and twisted yarns which have to meet highest mechanical and technical requirements. Our PERIBOND PU bonding agent is used to increase the resistance and durability of special sewing threads. Through the addition of PERIGUARD CSF, yarns which further require water- and oil-repellent properties, can be hydrophobized and bonded in only one process step.

Bonding and Hydrophobing of Sewing Threads

If threads and twisted yarns have to meet high mechanical requirements, they should be bonded. Bonding means the stabilization of a thread with a polymer material. In doing so, the fibers within the yarns are glued together. The threads get strengthened and – in case of twisted yarns – untwisting during the sewing process is prevented.

For the bonding of threads and twisted yarns made of polyester or polyamide we recommend PERIBOND PU, a water-baser polyurethane dispersion. This bonding agent achieves excellent effects. It bonds the threads without stiffening them. This way, threads and twisted yarns can be strengthened without affecting their flexibility and smoothness.

In combination with PERIGUARD CSF the threads can be bonded and simultaneously receive a water-, dirt-, and oil-repellent finishing in only one operating step. This way the yarns can meet highest mechanical and technical requirements, as they are asked for technical textiles. PERIGUARD CSF is a textile auxiliary for yarn finishing based on C6 chemistry. The achieved hydrophobic and oleophobic effects are very permanent and remain even after several rewinding processes and sewing. PERIGUARD CSF is specially suited for the finishing of sewing threads as quite low fixation temperatures are sufficient (starting from 100 °C).

Improvement of Sewability through Combination with Sewing Yarn Lubricant

In order to improve the sewability of threads they can be finished with a yarn lubricant after bonding. We recommend the application of the cold melt product PERIXEN CML/R, an anhydrous lubricant based on silicone and paraffin. In difference to emulsion lubricants it is free from water. After the application no drying step is required. PERIXEN CML/R adheres very well to the fiber, so there is almost no abrasion during sewing. The product provides bonded yarns with smoothness and heat resistance as well as optimum gliding properties and an even, low friction value. Furthermore, it has no negative impact on the water-repellent properties of yarns finished with PERIGUARD CSF.

Process Recommendation: Bonding and Lubrication of Sewing Threads

For the bonding on the bonding machine we recommend the application of the bonding agent PERIBOND PU in the first step. After drying a silicone- and paraffin-based lubricant, such as PERIXEN CML/R can be applied on the bonding machine or via precision pump.

In case that the threads or twisted yarns shall receive a bonding and a fluorocarbon finishing at the same time, a blend of bonding and fluorocarbon is applied. Following to drying, the goods are fixed in a drying chamber. The final step is the application of the lubricant PERIXEN CML/R.
